Invited to Australia for Melbourne’s White Night, Antoine+Manuel took over the impressive 35-meter-high reading room of the State Library of Victoria. A mapping video installation evoking Alice in Wonderland. Composed of four tableaux combining vector drawings and psychedelic photographic collages, the architectural elements of this octagonal dome are transcended, sublimating this monumental volume into an introspective space.

Invités en Australie à l’occasion de la White Night de Melbourne, Antoine+Manuel investissent l’impressionnante salle de lecture de la bibliothèque d’État du Victoria haute de 35 m. Une installation vidéo en mapping évoquant Alice au pays des Merveilles. Composé de quatre tableaux combinant dessins vectoriels et collages photographiques psychédéliques les éléments architectoniques de ce dôme octogonal sont transcendés, sublimant ce volume monumental en espace introspectif.

During an artistic residency in Adelaide, Australia, Antoine+Manuel developed an immersive video installation project using white pencil drawings on black paper and vector graphics. This work evolves into an initiatory experience, beginning in the night of nothingness and ending in the dazzling light of a radiant solar disk. In harmony with the architecture of the historic library’s magnificent reading room, Animal (from the Latin anima breath, soul) takes the public on a whirlwind tour of life through mineral, botanical and animal forms.
The original drawings formed the subject of an exhibition at the Greenaway Art Gallery in April 2018.

Lors d’une résidence artistique à Adélaïde en Australie, Antoine+Manuel élaborent un projet d’installation vidéo immersif à partir de dessins au crayon blanc sur papier noir et de dessins vectoriels. Ce travail évolue vers une expérience initiatique, débutant dans la nuit du néant il s’achève dans la lumière éblouissante d’un disque solaire irradiant. En harmonie avec l’architecture de la grandiose salle de lecture de la bibliothèque historique, Animal (du latin anima souffle, âme) embarque le public dans le tourbillon de la vie par le minéral, le végétal et l’animal.
Les dessins originaux ont fait l’objet d’une exposition à la Greenaway Art Gallery en avril 2018.
